✭✭✭✭✭ The best steak in Colchester. Pepper sauce or sauce Diane. Service good. Especially when the big boss is in. The restaurant is often busy so can feel cramped but the atmosphere always makes up for it. Top end of the budget in Colchester but worth it for a special evening. I'd be surprised to read a negative review of this restaurant written honestly.
✭✭✭✭ Bella Pais for a Romantic evening I would say this restaurant is a favourite of mine in Colchester. The atmosphere is lovely with friendly stuff. You normally have to book as it can be very busy. They serve great steak with different beautiful Greek starters and mains. Ideal for a romantic dinner for two or out in a group for a birthday or special event.

"Steaks Fantastic"
✭✭✭✭✭ We have been to this restaurant on several occasions and have always had fantastic food and service.On our latest visit there were eight of us and six of us had steaks and everyone was FANTASTIC some had rare some medium some well done,but everyone was well satisfied.The other two had King Prawns in GARLIC with Greek salad,what a treat,the service was really good,no one was pushy,but when you needed anything they were there straight away. Will be back again very soon.

✭✭✭✭✭ Went of a Friday night and lucky to have booked as the place was full.
I chose the 22oz t bone - wow, what a huge steak! I have eaten many t bones before , but this seemed to be much bigger than anything else that I have ordered elsewhere. Struggled to eat it all, and my wife's 12 oz was also enormous.I have been to Colchester many times over the years and I am kicking myself for not finding this gem previously.Park in the multistory nearby.Great portions, great service, great restaurant.

✭✭✭✭✭ This place seems to have a reputation amongst locals for its steaks - we saw several coming out when we ate. We opted for Greek food from the menu which fully lived up to expectations, being plentiful and very tasty. Oh, and if you like Retsina, they keep it here!

✭✭✭✭✭ We visit regularly and the food is always consistently good. Staff have been there for years and we love them all. If you want to get in on a Saturday you will have to book a few weeks in advance - they are always busy.

✭✭✭✭✭ This is an amazing steak house, we look forward to a celebration for an excuse to eat here, the 12oz rump steak is the cheapest but the best ive ever had, it takes up the whole plate - they also do a 30oz steak for roughly £28. The desserts are amazing, mmmmmm! The only down sides I think are 1: its very small (but I wouldnt want them to lose any seating!) 2: if you ask for a side of baby potatos you receive a big bowl of them, not a couple on the plates, its loads or nothing. 3: I also love bbq sause/potato salad with my steak, they have none of those. But dont let that put you off, its the best steak!! Definately worth the money! :)

✭✭✭✭✭ I was suprised to not see a review for this restaurant while browsing Colchester eateries. I heard about Bella Pais from a family on the train and made a point to visit. The restaurant is small and you could walk by and not notice it. The steaks are awesome and this was the reason we visited. The service was friendly and they tried to please. The portions were massive so arrive hungry. The costs were in line with what you would expect in a downtown popular restaurant. We were told to call ahead for seating and on busy nights you may not get in.

I have been visiting the restaurant with my partner and family for over two years now, on many occasions. I can honestly say I have not had a single bad dish, let alone meal!
On every occasion you are welcomed by the professional and friendly staff, shown to your seat and made to feel like you are the only people in the restaurant.
The atmosphere is perfectly created by the lighting, decor and happy staff.
The food is amazing, I will be honest and say I never venture far away from the 10oz melt in your mouth Fillet steak as main, purely because it is like nothing I have ever tasted before. Everything is cooked to a high standard, but the steak/fish is the big hitter in this restaurant.
Portion sizes are big, which for me is what I like to see.
Overall, if you want a friendly, intimate restaurant with great service and matching food I would advise booking a table at Bella Pais Colchester. Book early as it gets very busy on weekends.

✭✭✭✭ Only open in the evenings, this Colchester classic has been providing great food for those in the know for many years. Ostensibly a Greek restaurant, the food is plentiful, well prepared and well served. It is inexpensive, great fun and Andy will cook the best styeaks in the town to your precise order. Forget "steak houses", the Bella Pais is the only place to go if you want a brilliant steak.
The Greek dishes are also authentic and really good, but I defy anybody to eat much more after a starter of garlic pitta bread. Prepare to eat well and leave full!
